God

My Beloved Brother and Sister;

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."(Genesis 1:1)

1. Lord God Almighty & Powerful

Our God

God that created all beings and things. Angels are of him, are created by him, serve and worship him; devils are of him, and under him, and at his control, though they have rebelled against him; all mankind are of him, the heavens, the earth, and seas, and all that in them are, are of him; all things in nature, providence, grace, and glory, come of him: he is the author of every mercy, temporal and spiritual. - John Gill

About God

Genesis 1:26

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

Let us: spoken by God the Father to the Son and Holy Ghost, who were each of them concerned in the creation of all things, and particularly of man

our image: This, as suggesting an external likeness, may refer to man's reason, self-will, self-consciousness, and so on.

likeness:  which implies something closer and more inward. It refers to man's moral powers, and especially to his capacity of attaining unto holiness.

them/dominion: The relationship of man to the rest of creation is now defined to be one of rule and supremacy.

Genesis 2:18

"And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

Genesis 2:22-24

22 "And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

rib/woman: out of his side, and from one of his ribs, that she might appear to be equal to him; and from a part near his heart, and under his arms, to show that she should be affectionately loved by him, and be always under his care and protection.

bone/flesh: Thus bone of my bones means "my very own self," while flesh of my flesh adds the more tender and gentle qualities.

wife: "He who at the beginning made them male and female "pronounced the Divine marriage law that man and wife are one flesh.

leave:  he should depart from his father's house, and no more dwell with him, or bed and board in his house; but having taken a wife to himself, should provide an habitation for him and her to dwell together.

Nehemiah 9:6

"Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee."

Isaiah 40:28

"Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding."

Creator: or, "the God of the world"; that has made it, and upholds it, and governs it, and judges righteously in it; who is from everlasting to everlasting, unchangeably the same; whose name alone is Jehovah, the self-existent and all comprehending Being, the Maker and Former of all things; who has not only created the earth, and the foundations of it; but even the extremities of the earth; and therefore knows and will take care of his own people.

understanding: it is infinite, his servants must trust him to accomplish their deliverance in his own good time.

Revelation 1:8

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

Proverbs 16:16

"How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!
and to get
understanding rather to be chosen than silver!"

wisdom: To obtain and possess Christ, the fountain of wisdom, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, which treasures are infinitely preferable to thousands of gold and silver; to have wisdom in the hidden part, or grace in the heart, which is much more precious than gold that perisheth; to have a spiritual experimental knowledge of the Gospel, and the truths of it, which are more to be desired than gold, yea, than fine gold

understanding:  a spiritual understanding of Christ and the Gospel, and an experience of the grace of God.

James 1:5

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Isaiah 55:8

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord."

my thoughts/your thoughts: the thoughts of men are finite and limited, whereas the thoughts of the Lord are infinite and boundless; men's thoughts have a beginning, but the Lord's have none; the thoughts of men are evil, even the imagination of their thoughts, yea, every imagination is, and that always and only so; but the thoughts of God are holy, as appears from his purposes and covenant, and all his acts of grace, in redemption, calling, and preparing his people for glory

your ways my ways: the ways which God prescribes and directs men to walk in are different from theirs; his are holy, theirs unholy; his are plain, theirs crooked; his are ways of light, theirs ways of darkness; his are pleasant, theirs not so, at least in the issue; his lead to life, theirs to death; and therefore there is good reason why they should leave their evil ways, and walk in his.

Romans 11:33

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"

Romans 10:9

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

confess: That is, if a man shall make a good, sincere, and hearty confession to God, before the church and people of God, and before the world, that Christ is his Lord and Saviour, whom he desires to serve, and to be saved by; and this as arising from a comfortable experience of the grace of God in his soul, and from a true faith in Christ in his heart

believe: If a man confessed faith in Jesus, as the Lord and Saviour of lost sinners, and really believed in his heart that God had raised him from the dead, thus showing that he had accepted the atonement, he should be saved by the righteousness of Christ, imputed to him through faith.

John 3:17

"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

loved the world: The Divine love to the whole of humanity in its condition of supreme need; "Christ brought life, because the heavenly Father loves the human race, and wishes that they should not perish."

gave: or "spared not His own Son"; "withheld not His Son, His only Son, whom He loved"

him: Christ; there is no salvation in any other. From all this is shown the happiness of true believers; he that believeth in Christ is not condemned.

perish: How great is the sin of unbelievers! God sent One to save us, that was dearest to himself; and shall he not be dearest to us? How great is the misery of unbelievers! they are condemned already.

everlasting life: Everlasting life could only be had by faith in Him, and might be thus obtained; whereas all those, who believe not in the Son of God, cannot partake of salvation, but the wrath of God for ever rests upon them.

Acts 4:12

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

inspiration: the Scriptures are the breath of God, the word of God and not men; they are "written by the Spirit"

doctrine: for the discovering, illustrating, and confirming any doctrine concerning God, the being, persons, and perfections of God; concerning the creation and fall of man; concerning the person and offices of Christ, redemption by him, justification by his righteousness, pardon by his blood, reconciliation and atonement by his sacrifice, and eternal life through him, with many others

correction: of immorality; sin, evil nature, wicked tendency, and consequences.

man of God: the Christian; the believer, follower; who is chosen by God the Father, redeemed by the Son, and called by the Spirit; but more especially a minister of the Gospel

good works: particularly to the work of the ministry, which is a good one; and to every part and branch of it, a thorough furniture for which lies in the holy Scriptures

Matthew 7:24

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."

Romans 11:33-36

33"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen."

Psalm 95:6

"O come, let us worship and bow down:

Romans 10:11

"For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

Jeremiah 33:3

"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
